Notifications on Android.
Reminders, your daily rhythm and Kata's notes reach your Android phone as notifications once you allow them. Android's battery saving can hold them back, and one setting fixes that.
Allow notifications
At the end of setup Kata asks once whether you want notifications. On Android 13 and newer, Android then shows its own prompt: tap Allow. On older versions, apps may notify without that prompt, and you choose per app in the phone's Settings.
Said no and changed your mind? Open your phone's Settings, Apps, Kata, Notifications, and switch them on. Then turn on Notifications in Kata's Settings, under Notifications. Or leave Deliver as on In app only: everything then collects under the bell inside Kata.
What Kata sends, and how
What reaches you, how and when is yours to set in Settings, under Notifications: the categories, Push or In app for each, quiet hours and how often. On Android, Kata's notifications travel through Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging: a push token tied to your account and the text of the notification, nothing else, and never for advertising. Turn notifications off or delete your account, and the token is deleted.
When reminders arrive late
To save battery, Android holds back apps it thinks you rarely use, and some phones go further with battery savers of their own. A reminder can then arrive late, or only when you pick the phone up. Kata cannot change this from inside the app, but you can:
- Open your phone's Settings, then Apps, then Kata.
- Tap Battery, or App battery usage.
- Choose Unrestricted, or turn off battery optimization for Kata.
Some phones keep a list of their own, such as Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps on Samsung: make sure Kata is not on it. While Battery Saver is on, Android may delay notifications from every app, Kata included.
Quiet hours are Kata's own: nothing is sent inside them, whatever Android allows. Do Not Disturb silences Kata like any other app, unless you let Kata through.
