Talk to Kata.

A spoken conversation#

Talk to Kata turns the chat into a real conversation you can have out loud. Kata greets you first, then the microphone opens on its own. You speak a turn, Kata thinks, replies in Mégane's voice, and returns to listening for your next turn. It is made for the moments your hands and eyes are busy: cooking, walking, driving, winding down.

How to open it#

In the chat, when the message box is empty, the send control shows a gradient voice button. Tap it to enter Talk. The moment you start typing, it becomes the usual send arrow again, so the invitation to talk is always right where send would be, and typing is never in the way. The first time, Kata asks for the microphone permission; a denied microphone is explained on screen with the way to turn it back on.

The talk screen#

Talk is its own screen: the chat stays out of sight until you ask for it. At the center sits a large living gradient circle that moves with the conversation, and one quiet word under it says where you are: Listening, Thinking, Speaking.

• Listening: the circle draws in a little the moment speech is detected, then its size and halo move with your voice, so you can see you are being heard.
• Thinking: a steady pulse while the reply is being written.
• Speaking: the circle moves with Mégane's voice as it talks, and the reply begins as soon as its first sentence is ready.
• Readable: the words as they are recognised, then Kata's reply as it is spoken, appear between the circle and the controls, so the screen is never an opaque black box.

Tap the circle while Kata is speaking to interrupt and take your next turn; in the browser you can simply start talking over her. The close control ends the session cleanly and releases the microphone, and every turn stays in your chat thread. Reduced motion is respected: the circle holds still instead of reacting, while still showing listening and speaking.

Drag it small#

Drag the circle down and the real chat is revealed behind it, in proportion to your finger. Let go and the circle parks small above the message box, where it reads "Type or talk": the whole conversation is readable, you can type or keep speaking, and Kata still answers out loud. Drag it back up and the full talk screen returns. Between the two sits Ask Kata: the circle lifts a little and stays while the real message box opens under it, so a typed message, a photo or a file behaves exactly as it does in chat, with Kata answering by voice.

Language and tone#

While Talk is open, one settings icon takes the place where the notification bell normally sits. It opens the voice settings without leaving the conversation: how Kata talks to you, the same coach tone the chat uses, and the language Kata speaks in. Language defaults to Auto, which follows the language you are writing in, and you can pin it to one of the six.

The same coach, honest out loud#

Talk is not a separate assistant. Your spoken turn becomes a normal message to the same coach, reasoned over the same way as a typed one, and it lands in the same thread with its reply, so nothing is lost when you close Talk. Talk has no cards to tap, so it checks what actually landed against what the reply said: if something did not save, Kata says so out loud and leaves the reason in the chat, and in manual lock-in mode it tells you a save is waiting for your tap there.

Your voice stays on your device#

Speech is transcribed on your device, the same on-device path as voice input. Your raw audio never leaves the phone: only the transcript travels, exactly like a message you typed, and only the reply text is sent to ElevenLabs, the voice processor, to be spoken. There is no new place your data goes and nothing new is stored: the same flows already used for chat and Kata voices. See Your data.

Which plans include Talk#

Each spoken reply in Talk counts as one voice interaction, the same allowance as Kata voices: 60 a month on Kata Plus, 400 a month on Kata Unlimited, and every new account starts with 30 days of Plus. Kata Free has no Kata voice and no Talk: the voice button still opens, but shows a calm note pointing to the plans instead of a conversation, and the chat by text is untouched.
