Photos.
Your camera is a logging tool. Kata reads plates, labels and lab reports for you, and turns progress photos into the change the scale cannot show.
Photos in the chat
- Tap Attach in the composer: Take a photo, Choose from camera roll or Upload a file. One photo at a time; a new one takes the place of the last.
- The coach names what it sees and estimates protein and calories: "Looks like a salmon bowl with rice: about 38 g protein and 620 kcal." Add your own question, or leave the default one: what is this, and if it is a meal, estimate protein and kcal.
- Confirm the lock-in card and it is logged. Correct it in words if the estimate is off: "more like 500 kcal".
Photo analysis in the chat comes with Kata Plus and Unlimited; on Kata Free the composer says so plainly, and your photos always stay on your device. If Kata notices a barcode in the photo you are about to send, it offers to scan the product instead: one tap opens the scanner, which is free on every plan. Ignore the offer and the photo behaves as usual.
Food photos without the coach
The Log nutrition sheet in Nutrition takes a photo on every plan: it is saved with the entry, and you can send it to the coach for a protein estimate whenever you want. The scanner reads a barcode first and a photo of the product or its label when there is none.
Lab reports and documents
A photo of a lab report becomes values you review and keep, a doctor's letter becomes a careful summary, and a menu gets advice in the moment. Files work too: a PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, JSON or text file is read as text, and a scan goes in as a photo. See Biomarkers and documents.
Visual progress
Visual progress lives on your Profile. A set is four slots, Front, Side, Back and Face, each with a short guide, same spot, same light, same time of day; take what you want, skip what you do not, and save. Any two sets sit side by side as a before and after, ready to share only when you choose. Kata drops a quiet notice when a new set is due. See Visual progress.
All photos stay on your device, in IndexedDB, and are never part of the sealed cloud snapshot. If you ask the coach to look at one, it is analysed for that answer and not stored anywhere else. See Your data.
