Nutrition.

Food logging is where most trackers lose people. Kata keeps it to one sentence, one photo, one scan or one tap, and keeps your water goal thinking alongside it.

Ways to log food

  • Say it: "chicken bowl with rice and avocado" in the chat, typed or spoken.
  • Photograph it: attach a plate in the chat and the coach names it and estimates protein and calories, on Kata Plus and Unlimited. In the Log nutrition sheet a photo is saved with the entry on every plan, and you can send it to the coach for the estimate.
  • Tap it: Your meals collects what you eat often, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or Late, ready to log again in one tap, next to your Favorites and Recent entries. Your quick foods from Settings, Food live here too.
  • Scan it: a barcode or a photo of the product, and a personal verdict.
  • Type it: what you ate, protein and calories, and under More details carbs, fat, fiber and salt.

Scan a product

The scanner opens straight into the camera with a frame: hold the barcode inside it and Kata reads the product. No barcode? Tap Photo instead and photograph the product or its label, or type the barcode by hand. A barcode is looked up in the open Open Food Facts database; a photo is read by the coach and treated as provisional. Only what is needed leaves your device: the bare barcode for the lookup, or the photo for that one answer.

The result is a Kata score from 0 to 100 with a verdict, Fits you, Okay for you or Not for you, followed by Why, for you, the label facts per 100 g, per 100 ml or per serving, the allergens as they read on a label, additives with their level of concern and Kata's take. The score weighs the facts against your goals, your phase and anything you avoid, so the same product reads differently for two people. Your recent scans stay on the device.

Calories and macros

Nutrition leads with calories: a bar against the daily target, estimated from your body data and your phase or set by hand, filling as you eat. Under it sit the three macros, protein, carbs and fat; carbs and fat are what remains once calories and protein are set, guidance you control rather than a prescription. Calories and macros charts the range you choose, 7, 14, 30 or 90 days, with the daily average, and fiber shows for the foods logged with details. Protein stays the number your phase cares about most and the one that feeds your day score.

What to do next, and Review estimates

What to do next says one practical thing based only on what you actually ate: add about 25 g of protein to a normal day, log the meals you are missing, or keep going. Why this shows the numbers behind it, and where the sensible move is a new protein goal the card offers to set it. Review estimates fills in carbs and fat for past entries that had none, as estimates you check, adjust or untick; entries that already carry them are never touched.

Where your totals come from

By default your Kata log is the day's truth (I log in Kata), and the nutrition a connected health app carries shows alongside it as a read-only companion, never added on top. If another app already tracks your food, switch to Auto from Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android: days where the source carries nutrition use those totals here, in the charts and for your coach, and days without fall back to your Kata log. One source per day, nothing counted twice, nothing rewritten. See Apple Health and Health Connect.

Water that thinks

Your daily water goal is computed fresh every morning from your trend weight: about 35 ml per kilo, plus half a litre for each session you log that day, up to two, rounded to the nearest 100 ml, unless you set your own goal. Log a glass in three words ("half a liter") or with a tap: the tracker fills as you drink, and streaks reward consistent days.

Good to know

Estimates are honest, not precious. Correct any card in plain words ("more like 500 kcal") and Kata learns your portions over time. Ask Kata about your nutrition opens the deeper read whenever you want it.
