Mind: how you are.
Mind is the sixth section of Kata, next to Today, Focus, Activity, Nutrition and Sleep. It reads four things a person would actually say about a day, focus, energy, stress and calm, and what they do around your sleep and your training. Kata observes, it never diagnoses.
Tell Kata about today
There is one control on the whole screen, and it is a conversation, not a form: How was today? Four questions, each with five words to pick from. Could you hold your attention today, from Scattered to Sharp. How much was in the tank, up in your head, from Empty to Full. Was anything making today heavier than usual, from None to Too much. Did today feel settled, from Restless to Still. Answer what fits, skip what does not; anything you leave blank stays blank. A note in your own words is optional and stays on this phone: Kata reads the four answers, never the note.
What the screen reads
- Today: the four pillars as dials, only the ones you answered. A pillar nobody spoke about is listed as not answered, never at 50.
- Mind recovery: one number for the whole mind, only when all four were answered: Recovered, Steady, Protect today or Ease off, each with one line on what the day is good for.
- Inner weather: Clear, Balanced, Busy, Overloaded or Storm, drawn as a Kata mark, when the reading is deep enough.
- Stress, read twice: what you said and what your body measured, recovery, HRV or resting heart rate from a connected wearable against your own usual, kept apart on purpose. When the two disagree, that is usually the part worth looking at.
- What changed: one morning observation, a calm streak or a pillar reading higher or lower than it usually does for you.
- Patterns: things that happen together, never a claim that one caused the other: focus after seven hours of sleep, calm after early nights, mental energy on training days, focus on days you eat before nine. A pattern needs a number of answered days behind it, and Kata says so until then.
- Over time: every line from 0 to 100 over 7 days to a year, with the body's stress underneath and a break wherever a day holds nothing. The detail view reads a day, a week, a month or a year, and Read this period asks the coach for its read once the period holds enough answered days.
Something to do now
Practical first. Kata puts one short practice in front of you, picked for how today is going: a longer breath out, box breathing, four seven eight, five minutes of daylight, a ten minute walk, five things you can see, unclench, or the one thing. Why this works opens the modest reasoning behind it; nothing here claims to treat anything. A practice runs on a full screen surface that only counts the minutes it really ran, and afterwards Kata asks how it is now, so today's reading takes the practice in.
The mood on your day
Separately, the evening review on Today can carry a mood: How did you feel, from Rough to Great. It is one tap, always optional, and it draws the Mood, 14 days line on your Profile. Days without a mood are skipped: there is no streak to break and nothing counts against you. Tell the coach ("feeling great today") and it proposes a mood card you confirm.
Concerns and the breathing pacer
When you share something worth remembering, pain, sleep trouble, stress, low mood, an allergy, the coach offers to keep it as a concern. Concerns are stored only on your device, ride your backups, show in the Concerns tab of the Kata log and in What Kata knows about me, and the coach follows up at a sensible cadence; resolved ones stay only there. The Breathwork tracker in Focus opens Breathe with Kata: Calm (in 4, out 6), Box (4 4 4 4) or 4 7 8, for 2 to 10 minutes, with a phase word and a haptic on each change, and a completion moment that logs the tracker in one tap. Meditate daily and Journal sit next to it as practices.
What happens to this
Your four answers stay on this phone and go to Kata only inside your own conversation, so it knows how you are. What you write in your own words never goes anywhere, not to Kata and not into any summary, and none of it is in the anonymous product statistics. A day with a reading adds Mind as a sixth part of the day score, so answering can only raise a day. See Your data.
Kata is a companion for your daily practice, not a medical or crisis service. For anything that feels heavy or urgent, it will encourage real help: a professional, or someone you trust. That encouragement is care, not a limit. See Not a doctor.
